Caroline Kennedy

Caroline Bouvier Kennedy, born November 27, 1957, is an American author, attorney, and diplomat who has served as the United States Ambassador to Australia since 2022. Prior to that, she held the post of U.S. Ambassador to Japan from 2013 to 2017 under the Obama administration. As the only surviving child of President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, she remains a prominent figure of the Kennedy legacy.

Her childhood was steeped in history: her father won the 1960 presidential election just before her third birthday, and she spent her formative years within the White House. Following his assassination in November 1963, she and her younger brother, John F. Kennedy Jr., moved with their mother to Manhattan's Upper East Side, where she completed her early schooling.

Kennedy earned her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and later a Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School. Before her legal career, she worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she met her future husband, exhibit designer Edwin Schlossberg. Her professional life has spanned law, education reform, and philanthropy, alongside co-authoring two books on civil liberties with Ellen Alderman. She has also served as a vocal guardian of her family's public memory, particularly her father's.

In the 2008 presidential race, she and her uncle, Senator Ted Kennedy, endorsed Barack Obama early on, campaigned for him in key states, co-chaired his vice-presidential search committee, and delivered a notable address at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
