Şerif Gören, born in 1944 in Xanthi, Greece, is a distinguished Turkish film director renowned for his powerful cinematic voice. He began his career in the film industry as an editor before transitioning to assistant director, honing his craft behind the scenes. In 1974, he made his directorial debut with *Endişe* (The Anxiety), marking the start of a prolific decade in which he directed over thirty films.
Gören’s most celebrated achievement came in 1982, when he won the prestigious Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for *Yol*. The film was directed on behalf of Yılmaz Güney, who was serving a prison sentence at the time for the murder of judge Safa Mutlu.
