Alex de Renzy

Alexander de Renzy carved an unconventional path from military service to the forefront of adult cinema. Born in Brooklyn in 1935, he first served as a Survival Instructor in the U.S. Air Force before settling in San Francisco to pursue documentary filmmaking. His trajectory shifted dramatically in 1969 when he traveled to Copenhagen for Sex 69, the first pornographic trade show following Denmark's legalization of adult content. That journey yielded his debut feature, *Pornography in Denmark* (1970).

Unlike many contemporaries, de Renzy prioritized narrative structure alongside explicit content. His editorial work on *Sexual Encounter Group* (1970) and his five screenplays demonstrated a commitment to storytelling. His 1973 production *Lady Freaks* launched the career of legendary performer Annette Haven, while *Pretty Peaches* (1978) introduced Desireé Cousteau, whose performance earned the Adult Film Association of America's Best Actress award. The film, loosely adapted from Voltaire's *Candide*, became a cult classic, though its infamous enema sequence—briefly censored from VHS releases—leaned more toward camp than high art. He also discovered Juliet Anderson, known to fans as "Aunt Peg."

De Renzy's directorial excellence earned him the 1977 AFAA Best Director award for *Babyface*. He later received dual honors with induction into both the AVN and XRCO Halls of Fame. After crafting his final narrative features, *Slave to Love* and *Two Women*, he adopted the pseudonym Rex Borsky in 1991, producing over 200 rapid-fire videos emphasizing anal themes. He died from a stroke and diabetic complications in a Los Angeles hotel room in 2001, while shooting his final project.
