In 2012, Tsai Ming-Liang was tapped by the Hong Kong International Film Festival to create its opening short. Nurtured on Hong Kong's pop culture, he chose to craft a "Walker" piece, setting the monk's unhurried stroll against the city’s relentless rush. The short concludes with a tune from Samuel Hui, a singer Tsai idolized in his younger days. It later earned a spot as the closing short at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
