Picture Bride (1995)

In 1918, seventeen-year-old orphan Riyo leaves Yokohama by ship for Hawaii, bound for an arranged marriage to Matsuji, a stranger. Seeking a fresh start away from her painful history, she is crushed to discover on arrival that her husband is twice her age. Lonely and heartbroken, Riyo finds comfort in Kana, a young mother whose friendship gradually helps her come to terms with the life she never chose.
