In this episode, the three interns each take on patients facing serious health challenges. Statistically, one of them is unlikely to survive. J.D. is caring for 86-year-old Mrs. Tanner, who is struggling with renal failure. Turk is assigned to 20-year-old David Morrison, who is dealing with a hernia. Meanwhile, Elliot's patient, Mrs. Guerrero, speaks only Spanish and may be suffering from lupus, adding a layer of complexity to her care.
