Shirley receives the prestigious Mother of the Year award from a magazine, prompting the family to embark on a bus trip to Sacramento for the ceremony. However, their journey takes an unexpected turn when they opt for a scenic back road, resulting in a series of mishaps, including wrong turns, a misplaced wallet, traffic violations, and various other frustrations along the way.
