Finding Your Roots (2012)

S01E02 John Lewis and Cory Booker

This episode highlights two African American politicians from distinct backgrounds and generations. John Lewis, who was raised in a sharecropping family in rural Georgia, contrasts sharply with Cory Booker, who grew up in a wealthy, predominantly white suburb of New Jersey. Despite their lifelong commitment to uplifting the African American community, both men are largely unaware of their own family histories. In a poignant moment, Booker learns about his white great-grandfather, a figure he never met, while Lewis becomes emotional as he reflects on the remarkable dreams and achievements of his enslaved ancestors.
