During the early to mid-20th century, Neandertals were often viewed as primitive beings, depicted as unintelligent, hunched cavemen. However, the findings from that cave in Iraq offered some of the first insights suggesting that Neanderthals displayed behaviors and possibly even emotions and thoughts similar to our own.
