Wallander's daughter’s friend arrives in distress, seeking his assistance, but soon vanishes without a trace. At the same time, the charred remains of an elderly woman are discovered in a shallow grave. As Wallander investigates, he uncovers a killer driven by a disturbing religious fervor. With time running out, he must track down the murderer before another innocent life is taken.
