In January 1999, the ambitious Zeus Project embarks on its inaugural manned mission to Mars, aiming for colonization. On the Martian surface, Ylla envisions the arrival of the astronauts, while her husband, Mr. K, schemes for their destruction. When the second expedition touches down, the crew discovers a Mars that feels both familiar and perilous. Eventually, Col. Wilder’s Zeus III mission arrives only to find the Martian inhabitants decimated, victims of chicken pox. For one crew member, Spender, the realization that Earth culture could devastate another world is unbearable.
