S01E01 Part One

In Barchester, few are as cherished as Reverend Septimus Harding. Beloved across the county, he tends to his church, famous for its fine choir, and serves as Warden of a local hospital. There, elderly residents live on a small daily stipend, left by a benefactor four centuries ago. But Dr. John Bold has been examining the will. He grows troubled that Harding receives £800 yearly—far more than the bequest originally intended, thanks to rising property values—while the residents get just one shilling and sixpence a day.
