Ted Hewitt, the new gamekeeper, begins setting up snares and traps on Lord Eddington's estate to safeguard the wildlife and catch any poachers. This development doesn't please Gordon, who stops by with Vicky to confront him. During their discussion, Vicky discovers that Hewitt's wife, Beth, is expecting a baby but appears to be unwell.
