Kavanagh takes on the case of a woman charged with murdering her husband. She confesses to the crime, citing years of abuse as her motivation, but Kavanagh advises her against making that admission in court. At the same time, a fellow attorney approaches Kavanagh for assistance as he faces allegations of mishandling a brief before the Conduct Committee.
